How To Get The Right Cycling Jersey: Tips For Newbies

Are you new to cycling? A lot of things will go into ensuring your beginner cycling is a success. For instance, you need to have the right type of bicycle. You also need to understand the kind of cycling you are doing, whether mountain cycling or road cycling. However, clothing is one thing that many beginners tend to overlook, yet it's equally important. The right type of clothing can make all the difference when it comes to your cycling experience. That's why it's crucial to have the perfect cycling jersey. However, choosing one is not always easy, especially for beginners, because there's a lot you need to consider in your selection. Considering this, here are some useful tips to help you choose the right cycling jersey:

Consider the Fabric

The fabric used to make the jersey can determine how quickly it wicks the sweat away from your skin and dries. You want a jersey that does this at a considerably fast rate for a cool and more comfortable ride. For that, synthetic fabrics such as polyester are usually the best because of their excellent breathability. Wool fabrics are also an option to consider. Besides being breathable like their synthetic counterparts, they are also naturally soft (which offers extra comfort) and odour resistant (which will come in handy if you're getting sweaty).

Cotton is also an option you may come across. However, unlike wool and synthetic fibres, cotton isn't breathable and will soak up the sweat, leaving you with an uncomfortable cycling experience.

Consider the Weather

This is particularly important if you are cycling in considerably sunny conditions. If you are going on a long and hot ride, you will need as much ventilation as possible. For this, go for a jersey with a frontal zip. You can choose a full-length zip or a partial zip that only goes about halfway down. Keep in mind that a full-length zip will offer the best ventilation. Whether you are going for the full-length or partial zip, make sure it has a zip garage to prevent irritation or abrasion to your neck and chin.

Some fabrics also come with SPF (sun protector factor) protection that will protect you from the sun's UV rays.

Think About Pockets

Pockets on your jersey can come in handy. You can stash money, energy bars, keys and other valuables inside these pockets that could prove useful on your ride.
